In this blog post, we’ll reveal the ins-and-outs of our signature underwire technology and how we craft our FlexWire bras to suit different breast shapes and sizes.
Why Wear Underwire Bras?
To this day, underwire remains the most effective bra mechanism for providing support. Some wireless bras can be surprisingly supportive, but they pale in comparison at providing definition, preventing “monoboob”, and reducing skin-on-skin irritation.
Beyond a certain size range, you can’t beat wired bras for lift, separation, shape, and stability.
Underwire can be painful to many who feel like they have no choice. But here’s the key: underwire bras require a precise fit.
When the wire suits your breast shape perfectly, things click into place. There is a magical feeling where the underwire quietly does its job without making itself known, holding your breasts up without digging or jabbing you anywhere.
But what if finding the perfect underwire shape match isn’t like looking for a unicorn? This is the reason we made FlexWire.
FlexWire still provides support, but the added flexibility makes that precise fit easier to come by.
Traditional Underwire vs. Understance FlexWire™
FlexWire is made of carbonized steel with a hint of silicon. The composition makes the underwire bouncy and good at shape retention. It takes on the shape of your breasts, instead of forcing your breasts to fit the metal’s shape.
Most wired bras are made with a “one-wire-fits-all” approach. The underwire shape, thickness, and rigidity remain the same for all sizes that the bra comes in.
In comparison, our FlexWire is size-specific.
We adjust the shape, thickness, and rigidity of the wire based on size range. In the same style, you will find the underwire on 30D much softer than the underwire on 44G. In the bigger band size ranges, we scale the underwire to be shorter on the sides.
Matching the Wire to Your Roots
When it comes to finding a comfortable underwire bra, knowing your size is only half of it – matching your breast shape is just as important.
You will need to choose the underwire width (narrow, average, wide), side wire height (how high the wire comes up on the sides), and centre gore height (where the underwire meets in the middle). We offer a variety of options so you can find your perfect fit.
The wire is supposed to sit on your roots (when you lift up your breasts, the thin line at the bottom, where your breasts are connected to the rest of your body). Your root shape (wide/narrow, tall/short) is the most important factor in choosing an underwire.
